World Wrestling profit jumps

Its third-quarter net income jumped 60 percent to top expectations as cost cuts offset a decline in revenue said by WWE inc on Thursday.

The poor economy and WWE's ongoing transition between wrestling characters were essential factors in the declines said CEO Vince McMahon.

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. said Thursday that its third-quarter net income jumped 60 percent to top expectations as cost cuts offset a decline in revenue.

CEO Vince McMahon said the weak economy and WWE's ongoing transition between wrestling characters were important factors in the declines.

The Stamford, Conn., entertainment company said it earned $14.3 million, or 19 cents per share, in the three months ended Sept. 30. That compares with earnings of $8.9 million, or 12 cents per share, in the same quarter of 2009.

Excluding one-time items, the company earned 14 cents per share. Revenue fell nearly 2 percent to $109.6 million, as increased international sales only partly offset a drop in North America revenue.

The results beat the average estimates of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, who expected earnings of 12 cents per share on $108.3 million in revenue. Analysts typically exclude one-time items from their estimates.

Selling, general and administrative expenses were $24.3 million, down from $33.1 million the prior year. That helped offset a 5 percent drop in net revenue from its biggest unit, live and televised entertainment, to $73.8 million. WWE said it had 15 fewer events in North America during the quarter but lower average attendance, both domestically and internationally, was offset by higher average ticket prices.

Consumer product revenue fell 7 percent to $21.4 million and digital media businesses, including the company's web sites, fell 8 percent to $6.8 million. Revenue from WWE studios, which had seven released films, more than doubled to $7.6 million from $3 million last year, however.

World Wrestling shares rose 30 cents, or 2.2 percent, to close at $13.96.

Speculation on What Got Daniel Bryan Fired from WWE, WWE-MSG

WWE may have set it's non-PPV record this past weekend with the WWE Supershow at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show drew 19,000 fans and $850,000. This show sold out more than a month ago but it was noted by those in attendance that there were plenty of empty seats.

- While the tie incident with Justin Roberts is said to be the reason Vince McMahon gave to Bryan Danielson for his WWE release, some in the company believe that Danielson spitting on John Cena may have been the real reason. Vince hates spitting and has banned it in WWE's rings for a long time. Vince has a hatred for people spitting, smoking and sneezing. At the same time, it's pretty much guaranteed that Danielson didn't spit on Cena without clearing the move with Cena himself ahead of time.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Batista (Last Man Standing Match)

On The Grandest Stage of Them All, John Cena finally did what he had not been able to do in the past when he defeated The Animal, Batista, one-on-one. At Extreme Rules, The Champ will have to do it again – this time in a Last Man Standing Match.

As perhaps one of the most grueling matches ever to be fought, the Last Man Standing Match can’t be won by pinfall, submission or disqualification. In order to find victory, a Superstar must incapacitate their opponent long enough so as that they can’t reach their feet to answer the referee’s count of 10.

Though it may seem similar to a boxing match, that idea couldn’t be further for the truth. There are no ring girls, no rounds, no rules and no limits except for the amount of pain and punishment one defeated warrior will experience as the two gladiators battle it out.

Aside from Cena’s victory at WrestleMania XXVI, The Animal has had The Champ’s number in their past encounters and this will be the true test for Cena. Despite the decisive victory in Phoenix, Batista still argues that the WWE Champion can’t beat him. But after the fierce foes face off at Extreme Rules, there will be no words deny to deny the victor.

This match has been detrimental to all the Superstars who have fought under such conditions and there’s no telling what can happen. As Randy Orton can attest, one’s well being is truly put on the line, as was The Viper’s when he broke his collarbone in the very same match at One Night Stand in 2008.

Under these rules, carnage is a certainty. Only one of these ring warriors will walk out of Extreme Rules as the WWE Champion – with the other perhaps not walking out at all.

Will The Champ be able to repeat his WrestleMania success and be the Last Man Standing? Or will The Animal reestablish his dominance and put Cena down for the count? Find out April 25th when Extreme Rules airs live, only on pay-per-view.

Results:Road warriors

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Road to WrestleMania ends in just six days when the WWE Universe descends upon Phoenix for the biggest event in all of entertainment. Tonight, though, the twists, turns and dangerous curves continued to pop up along the way.
John Cena brawled with WWE Champion Batista (PHOTOS WATCH)In what was billed as a “Final Face-Off,” WWE Champion Batista and John Cena had an opportunity to confront each other less than a week before clashing on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
The Animal, surrounded by bodyguards, kicked off the trash talking by describing how he’s intimidated and gotten inside the head of his opponent. Cena fired back, saying that Batista will never keep him down, no matter what. After the WWE Champion snarled his reply, Cena had heard enough: He decimated Batista’s bodyguard detail before trading blows with The Animal himself. WrestleMania may be six days away, but the fireworks tonight would not be contained.
Members of the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine to act as next week’s special guest hostsJust 24 hours after WrestleMania goes off, members of the cast of the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine will soak up the thrilling atmosphere when Raw broadcasts from Phoenix. You’re going to want to catch all the action … and don’t forget to bring a towel!

WWE boss Linda McMahon takes ten-point lead in Republican race for the Senate

It is a YouTube clip that has been seen by millions of people: Linda McMahon, dressed in a business suit, is slapped hard on the cheek by her daughter and falls to the ground with the audience baying for more. She then kicks an opponent in the testicles.
Finally, as if by way of retribution, she is slammed head-first on to the canvas in a move known in professional wrestling circles as the piledriver. “That hurt, by the way,” she said later.
Mrs McMahon is a former wrestler and an entrepreneur worth an estimated $500 million (£326 million). The woman who made Hulk Hogan a household name is now a candidate for one of the most contested seats in the US Senate. Yesterday she became the Republican front-runner in a race in which she has said she is ready to spend as much as $50 million of her own money.
Even in a political culture that welcomes big money and brazen outsiders, Mrs McMahon’s run for the Senate stands out as ambitious and — so far, at least — successful. In six months she has fended off accusations of promoting smut and violence through professional wrestling, made a virtue of her ties to the sport by calling it “one of America’s greatest exports” and overturned a 37-point deficit in opinion polls to claim a ten-point lead over her closest Republican rival.

Upcoming Raw guest hosts

March 15, 2010: "Stone Cold" Steve AustinLess than two weeks before WrestleMania XXVI, WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin hosts Raw on March 15. The WWE Universe should certainly mark their calendars for the legendary Rattlesnake's return, as it is sure to turn WWE’s flagship show upside down. Though it’s uncertain what will happen when Stone Cold takes his place at the head of Raw for one night only, there's no doubt that he'll be looked at as one of Raw’s most controversial special guest hosts.

Process of Elimination

NASHVILLE - In his role as Capt. James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise, William Shatner presided over a crew that sometimes found themselves at each others’ throats. In his role as special guest host of Raw, the iconic actor also presided over a roster full of Superstars – and at least one Chairman – with enough personal vendettas to fill an entire galaxy.

Bret Hart confronted Mr. McMahon (PHOTOS WATCH)It’s been nearly a month since Mr. McMahon’s most recent betrayal of Bret Hart, when he lauded the WWE Hall of Famer just before kicking him in the gut. Tonight was payback time, or, at least it was supposed to be. While The “Hit Man” fired off a few choice words regarding The Chairman’s character and scruples, Mr. McMahon shot back with a few scathing words of his own.

Bret snapped, though, when The Chairman revoked the WWE Hall of Fame induction of Hart’s father and legendary trainer, Stu. That’s when The “Hit Man” retaliated against his longtime rival. Before he could truly pummel Mr. McMahon, though, Batista charged the ring and attacked Bret. As The Animal held Hart, Mr. McMahon berated him and, in shades of 12 years ago, actually spat on the Hall of Famer
